Understanding Communications

Applies to:All roles

The Communications area covers everything your community uses to reach residents — from one-time emails to Home page banners to urgent safety alerts — plus surveys, the one tool here that collects answers back rather than sending information out. It’s a good idea to know which tool is which before you start sending.

  • Broadcasts — a one-time email sent to a targeted group of contacts, with delivery tracking (who received it, opened it, or bounced). Good for meeting notices, rule reminders, and general announcements.
  • Announcements — a persistent banner shown on every resident’s Home page for a date range you choose. No email is sent — it’s purely an in-app notice, and residents can dismiss it if you allow that.
  • Emergency SMS — an urgent text message reserved for safety situations, sent immediately outside of the normal broadcast flow. See Sending Emergency SMS for important details on who actually receives it.
  • Surveys — a set of questions sent to a targeted group, with charted results and optional anonymity. Use it when you need to measure opinion rather than announce something. Surveys have their own section: see Understanding Surveys.

The community feed on the Home page is the fifth way people talk in HOA Hub, but it isn’t a communications tool — it’s a two-way conversation nobody is obliged to read, and posting to it sends no email. Use it for discussion, not for anything that has to land.

Look for Communications in your main navigation. It expands to:

  • Broadcasts — create and send broadcast emails
  • Announcements — manage Home page banners
  • Surveys — create surveys and read their results
  • Audiences — build and save reusable recipient lists
  • Analytics — see aggregate stats across all your broadcasts
  • Email Log — a record of every email the system has sent
  • Owner / Admin — full access: create and send Broadcasts, manage Audiences, manage Announcements, send Emergency SMS, create and read Surveys, and view the Email Log.
  • Board Member — can view Broadcasts, Announcements, and the Email Log, but can’t create or send anything, and doesn’t have access to Audiences or Surveys.
  • Resident — no access to the Communications area itself, but still receives broadcast emails, sees Home page Announcement banners and can dismiss them, and can respond to surveys they’re invited to.
