Budgets
A budget lays out what your community expects to earn and spend, month by month, for a fiscal year — and gives residents visibility into where their assessments go.
Go to Accounting → Budgets. Operating and Reserve each get their own budget per fiscal year. Board Members can open budgets but can’t change them.
Build a budget
Section titled “Build a budget”Click New Budget, choose the Fund and Fiscal year, and pick a Starting point:
- Empty budget — an Operating budget starts with a $0 line for every active income and expense account. A Reserve budget starts with no lines
- Copy from the fund’s most recent published budget — offered once one exists
Click Create Budget. The fiscal year list offers the current year and the next two, leaving out any year that already has a budget for that fund.
From there, the budget editor is a spreadsheet-style grid — one row per account, one column per month, and an Annual column:
- Click Add Account to bring in accounts from your chart of accounts
- Fill in amounts for each month. They save automatically as you type
- Income and expense subtotals, plus the net total, update live as you type
If you use departments, a pill row above the grid lets you budget each one separately.
Click the gear icon to open the budget’s Settings and add a Board Message to give residents context alongside the numbers — this shows up on the published view. Internal Notes in the same panel are for admins only.
Publish
Section titled “Publish”When the budget is ready, click Publish and confirm. This makes it visible to residents on their Finances page and locks the budget, its board message, and its notes from further edits.
Need to make a change after publishing? Click Unpublish — this returns it to a draft so you can edit, and you can publish again once you’re done. The full history is preserved either way.
